Motion Beyond Pain

Banish the fear of moving & get back to enjoying life vivaciously in just 12 weeks!

Are you frustrated by persistent aches and pains
Fed up of trying to “get fixed”?
Do you want to learn to “fix” yourself?.

“If I go through periods of not doing the exercises my knee starts to hurt; when I then start the exercises again (and they literally don't take that long) my knee becomes ok again. Thank you for your help - these exercises have helped me to continue to dance and not be injured..”
- Client, London, UK

Do you have persistent pain in your back, hips, knees or shoulders?

Just imagine - in 3 months’ time your life could be completely revitalised!

That niggly knee, unhappy hip, sore shoulder or grumbly back could be a thing of the past (or well on its way there!)

Gone is that underlying fear of "making things worse" that's holding you back from moving freely and doing all the activities you love.

You've taken control of the aches and pains you thought you were "stuck with" and your body feels a-ma-zing for it.

Motion Beyond Pain is now open for enrolment!

So, why does it hurt?

It can be common to think something is “wrong” with that body part and you want to “protect” it by not moving it.

Yet in most cases, 3-6 months after an injury, tissue healing should be completed!

In fact, by not moving the body part, it’s probably exacerbating things.

However if you are experiencing persistent aches and pains, one of the most challenging things can be movement.

You might have heard phrases such as "Movement is Medicine" or "Motion Is Lotion" - but how can you navigate this when you are experiencing chronic pain? Perhaps it hurts to move and you are worried you are making things worse? Or maybe movement itself feels great but then you get a flare-up a day or two later?

Working with an experienced movement coach (like me!) can help you understand safe ranges of motion, guide you through the peaks and troughs of your pain journey and give you the confidence and tools to self-manage, long-beyond the duration of the programme.

One client has described the course as “essential life skills.”

"I think I have got more out of this course than any other I have done. I have discovered that I didn’t need to live with the knee pain I was experiencing, and which I had written off as age-related."

The journey is different for everyone as we are all unique and anyone experiencing pain will have their own set of contributing factors, such as:

- Family concerns
- Work issues
- Failed Treatments
- Different explanations from practitioners (have you had an MRI scan which has been interpreted by a practitioner? Have you been told you have “degeneration in the joint”, are “not strong enough” or have “bad posture”?)
- Ongoing pain (the nervous system gets better at producing pain the longer it goes on)

If you have been in pain for a prolonged period of time, you may have received some treatment, such as from a chiropractor, physio or acupuncturist, or even had surgery, which may have worked in the short term, but longer term you are still experiencing symptoms.

What if multiple visits to the clinician is not really helping things? They make an adjustment and it feels better for a while and then the pain comes back?

This may be because this is treating the body like a machine - assuming it is possible to find a “broken” part and “fix” it, or even replace it. Sometimes this works, but often it doesn’t and you are still in pain and we are unsure why.

Human beings are so much more complex and it is essential to consider psychological and social aspects alongside movement, in order to move beyond pain and get back to doing the things that are important to you.

This is where movement can help! And not only that, understanding some of the science behind your pain can give you the confidence to move and know you are safe.

There is often a lot more to pain than biomechanics and I have found that  a regular, gentle movement practice, with incremental challenges, along with education about the body and pain, has helped relieve discomfort for many of my clients.

Not everyone is going to be able to get “pain free”. However it is possible to learn how to manage your pain in order to continue doing the things you love!
